W[illiam] W. Chapman to Frederick Douglass, May 31, 1854
For Frederick Douglass' Paper.
CORRECTION.
LIBERTY PARTY CONVENTION, Canastota, May 31st, 1854.
MR. EDITOR:—J. R. Johnson says that I made a mistake in my letter published in the
Douglass Paper, in charging him with voting for Mr. Van Buren. He says that the regret he expressed in the Canastota Convention, was occasioned by votes that he gave for Whig members of the Legislature, to give free suffrage to the colored people of this State.
