T. Meyers Ward to Frederick Douglass, March 13, 1854

NEW BEDFORD, March 13th.

FREDERICK DOUGLASS:—"We have met
the enemy and they are ours."

Rodney French the champion of liberty,
banner bearer of the free, has been re-elected
Mayor of this city, by an overwhelming
majority.

Never did colored freeman work more as
siduously on the glorious temple of freedom
than did the men of this city.

The conflict was fierce and fiery between
the forces of the tyrant and the armies of
the free, but the swelling about of victory
has rolled up from the gladsome hearts of
the free, while truth and right onece more
walk firmly on with a bold and hopeful face.

Three times three be given for the devoted, lion-hearted, and ever truthful Rodney
French,

Yours for the triumph

Of the Right,

T. MEYERS WARD.
