J[ames] R[awson] J[ohnson] to Frederick Douglass, April 18, 1855

For Frederick Douglass' Paper.

QUINNEBAUGH, CONN.

DEAR DOUGLASS:— Having engaged to preach to the Congregational Church in this place, for a year, I must have your paper sent to me. Not a copy of it can I find at this Post Office. I have not seen one of your numbers for several months. I supply the pulpit which the Rev. George Dean has vacated. He is elected to Congress, a member of the Assembly. We have confidence that he will not bow down to the slave power. He preaches the "Higher Law," and it is expected that he will proclaim it, and vote it at Washington. In the remainder of your "Life as a Freeman," I wish you much happiness and usefulness.

Yours, J. R. J.
