Dear General Howard:
Mrs [ ] , the Lady bearing this has a fierce poem which she wishes to deliever on
Sunday Evening in the Congregational Church. The Poem is on her honored
friend the late Charles Sumner. It is a deeply religious peom and is every way
suited to the religious character of th time and place upon which she wishes to
deliever it. I am sure you will do what you can to favor her application.
