For Frederick Douglass' Paper

FREDERICK DOUGLASS, ESQ.: DEAR SIR—To vindicate the "the truth of history," I wish to correct a mistake, which I made in the little note, which I sent you last week, in relation to our State Temperance Society.—When I wrote that letter, I looked at my journal, and saw the correct date, but made a mistake in some way after all, and wrote that the Society had been formed "sixteen years," when it should have stated that it has been formed "eighteen years" it having been formed in Middletown, on the 13th of April 1836.
While my hand is in, I may as well state that I have been connected with the "Temple Street Congregational Society" of New Haven, "sixteen years," not TWENTY YEARS," as my good friend, the editor, remarked in his last interesting paper. In closing, I will only say, that the kind friends in this city deserve all the praise for their kindness and interest in the National Council, which the paper bestows upon them; they "will stand by those who stand by the Constitution."
Respectfully and truly,
A.G.B.
