J[oséphine]-Delphine Roy to Frederick Douglass, 1865
Sir,
A Committee of Ladies, of which I have the honor to be a member, are organizing a bazaar, which is to be held towards the end of next summer, in favor of the Good Shepherd Asylum, of this City, an Institution the object of which is to afford a refuge to the repentant and to educate poor children.
The Ladies are having prepared an Album, in which desire to place the photographs and autographies of the eminent personages of Europe and America. This Album, which will thus become an object of great value, is to be disposed of by lottery so as to give
a greater number of persons a chance of winning it.
Being commissioned to make this collection, I take the liberty of asking you, Sir, to have the kindness to send me your photograph bearing your autography.
In granting me this favor you will perform a meritorious act of charity, and, at the same time, contribute, in a most efficacious manner, to the success of our bazaar.
I have the honor to be, Sir, Your humble Servant,
J. Delphine Roy
Address as follows
Mrs. F. E. Roy
No. 3 St. Lewis Street

I cordially commend this request to you as having a worthy object.
