Leeds March 27^th /62.

My dear friend,

I conclude you will be out lecturing when this reaches Rochester—I am rejoiced that your really grand speech on the war has been listened to so attentively by large audiences in Boston & N.Y.—We have looked in vain for a letter from you of late—I feel & know how much engaged you are—but a line is ever welcome—Extracts from your two last letters to me were read in [H-X?] & I sent to the Liverpool meeting

& you are soon repaid for your trouble, even in a pecuniary point of view. The Liverpool Society have just sent me £20—in all—of which £10 are for you—I am expecting other money in, & hope to send you a nice sum before long. You will be glad to know that I hope to be in Bristol at the Bazaar—the friends there are urgent in their wish for me to be with them. So I hope to be allowed to spend the Bazaar week there—& to meet the Committee, at their request I trust I may, to some extent, guide them in their distribution of the Bazaar proceeds—I sent off my Leeds' box on Tuesday to M^rs. Haymans, to go with the H—x box—& have been successful on the whole, but no nominal member of the A. S. Society here sent me anything, nor did I solicit them.
