Charles R. Douglass to Frederick Douglass, August 10, 1867
Washington D.C.
Aug. 10th 1867
Dear Father
I have received both of your letters, the last one I received this morning. Libbie and the little boy are both well. I intend to do just as I said I would with regard to refunding any money that you have advanced for me. Why I did not send the money in my last letter was this, I started house keeping the week that my things were to come and waited until Friday for my things, as they did not come then, I had to purchase several things that I would not have bought had my things arrived before Saturday. Please let me know what the box with cartage cost, also the mending of the sleigh besides several other minor expenses. Your letters to our Club done a great deal of good, I was taken to the Chron.
office to be published; but they had not the room to spare, but mentioned it in their columns, which I enclose. We are calling on our honorary members for a subscription of $5.00 to help entertain the Pythian's of Phila. the last of this month. Some of our honorary members have given as high as ten and fifteen dollars. The Pythians will play us on the 29th inst. and the Mutuals on the 31st inst. I would like to see you down here on that occasion. Mr. Langston was much pleased and releived at what you said in your letter to me. The Surrat and Stanton cases are the subjects now being talked mostly about.
Libbie sends love to Mother and yourself and is grateful for everything that has been done for her. She will write soon. (hastilly written)
