Charles R. Douglass to Frederick Douglass, August 6, 1867

Washington D.C.

August 6th 1867

Dear Father

I have been quite busy during the past week in arrangeing our house. I have not forgotten to thank you for all the trouble you have undergone in my behalf, and I hardly know how to make known my many obligations to you. Libbie and the baby are well and send their love. We are nicely situated and are living comfortably.

Libbie has received many calls since she has been here. Mr. Langston called me into his office this morning and told me of an article written by W. H. Day in which he said that Mr. Langston had spoken against you and himself, since being employed in this Bureau. Mr. Langston stated to me that it was false, and

also that whenever speaking of you it had been in the highest terms. He states that he never had reason to speak ill of you, but on the other hand he stands very much indebted to you.

The weather here at present is very hot and there is a great deal of Typhoid Fever about. I have received letters recently from Lewis and Fred. they are well and seem to be doing well. Love to Mother. I shall write to her soon.
