Charles R. Douglass to Frederick Douglass, June 24, 1867
WAR DEPARTMENT,
Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands,
Washington, June 24th 1867.
Dr Father
I recd. your letter of the 21st and 22d about five minutes ago. I am very glad to hear the news and also that it is a boy. I know Libbie is glad that it is all over. I hope she will come out all right. I have no fears that she wont, knowing that she is in good hands and will be well cared for. I heard of Prof. Taylors death by Libbies last letter. I am very busy at present in the office, your letters were brought here to me
by my friend and room mate Jas H. Smith who thought something was up by seeing the two letters one dated a day ahead of the other. I hope to hear how Libbie is getting along often.
My love to Libbie, Mother and all
I am very well satisfied with the name you have given the boy.
Aff. Yr. Son
