Frederick Douglass to Frank W. Tracy, February 27, 1866

LETTER FROM FRED. DOUGLASS.—The following communication has been handed us for publication:

CHICAGO, ILL., Feb. 27.

DEAR SIR: I very much regret that I could not meet my appointment in Springfield, and that I cannot now, on account of previous engagements at the East, make any immediate engagement to come to Springfield. Few things are more annoying to me than such disappointments as that at Springfield, but rains, thaws and floods will come. No one of the citizens of Springfield can feel the loss more than I do. Believe me I shall be glad to have a hearing in your city at an early date.

Respectfully,

FRED. DOUGLASS.
