Frederick Douglass to [Columbus Delano], May 10, 1872
Washington, D. C.
May 10h 1872
To the Honorable Secretary of the Interior:
Sir,
Having been a close observer of the Board of Trustees of the colored schools of the District of Columbia, as at present constituted, I have been pleased to notice their activity and wise efficiency in the discharge of the duties of their position; and from all that I have heard and learned I am quite convinced that Mr. Charles King has not been behind any of the Trustees in his devotion to the best interest of these schools and I therefore have no hesitation in recommending his retention as a Trustee of said Board.
Respectfully
Fredk. Douglass.
