Rosetta Douglass to Frederick Douglass, January 21, 1869

Rochester Jan'ry 21st/69

My Dear Father

I have been very much disappointed not to get a line from you saying whether you have got any of my letters. I have written you at Lewisburg Washington and Newburg. But as you did not speak of having heard from me in the Harrisburg letter I fear you have got none that I wrote and therefore think me neglectful of my duties. There is not much to write. We are all well on the hill as usual. You are expected here and announced for the 28th so by that I suppose Mr. Hallowell's telegram reached you. I see by a paper sent from Williamsport that you stirred the

ire of some Catholic and his criticism are any than friendly and again I see in the Independent an item speaking favorably of your lecture. I am very glad it takes so well. Annie and Alice are quite well. Hattie is not so well having a bad cough and she is cutting another tooth. I trust your throat is improving if not I do not see how you can fill your appointments West.

Mother sends love Nathan desires to be remembered, Annie and Hattie have great disputes about you every day.

Affectionately,

Your Daughter
