William Harned to Frederick Douglass, March 15, 1852

New York State Vigilance Committee
New York, March 15, 1852
Frederick Douglass:
Dear Sir:—
I am sorry to be under the necessity of requiring you to give notice, through the columns of your paper, that Mr. Jeremiah W. Myers is not, and has not, since September last, been an accredited agent of the New York States Vigilance Committee. Mr. M. was duly appointed, nearly a year ago, to collect funds in aid of the operations of our Committee; but, for reasons which we do not deem it necessary to spread before the public, his commission was withdrawn early last fall, and his connection with the Committee was dissolved. We have been very much surprised to learn, by a letter just received from a friend in Delaware County, that Mr. Myers has recently delivered a public address, and taken up a liberal collection for our Committee, notwithstanding that he has now no credentials or authority whatever to act in our behalf.
We deem it our imperative duty to the sacred cause of humanity in which we are engaged, to request you to publish this news in the next number of your paper; by so doing, you will much oblige,
Yours with respect,
Wm. HarnedHarned, William
