Frederick Douglass to Eusley Moore, April 9, 1866
This paper on the character and course of Andrew Johnson is well conceived and well executed. The head that planned it and the hand that wrote it, are honored by their work. The feature in the place of the paper which please me best is the fair and faithful portraiture of Johnson's merits. He is carefully lifted to the Sky to be hurled to the lower deep. The contrast is striking—and impressive. The appeal to him when lifted to the Presidency is natural and eloquent—worthy of a veteran orator.
Go forward, my young friend, write more, write much, write often—the more you write and commit to memory the better.
F. Douglass.
