WAR DEPARTMENT,
Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands,
Washington City, Dec. 7th 1867.
Dear Father,
The Revd. J. W. Alvord General Supt. of Schools under the Bureau, is desirous of obtaining any books or pamphlets you may have with regard to the history of the colored race that you dont care much about preserving. He is getting together a collection of books and pamphlets touching on the negro, and Slavery, for the Bureau Library, and he remarked to me that possibly you might donate a few, and requested me to write to you on that subject.
Libbie and the baby are well and send love to all.
