Dear General Howard:
Mrs [illegible] the Lady bearing this has a fine Poem which she wishes to deliver on Sunday Evening in the Congregational Church. The Poem is on her honored friend the last Charles Sumner. It is a deeply religious poem and is every way suited to the religious character of the time and place upon which she wishes to deliver it. I am sure you will do what you can to favor her application.
Yours Very truly,
Fredk Douglass
