Samuel Ringgold Ward to Frederick Douglass, September 7, 1848

Canandaigua, Sept. 7..
Editor of the North StarーDear Sir:
All those portions of my Address to the Colored Voters of this State, which allude to Mr. Van Buren’s former position on the question of Slavery in the District of Columbia, are hereby withdrawn. It is perhaps no more than just that I should add, that his present position, while very different from what it once was, is very far from being satisfactory.
S. R. WARD.
