J. Cogswill to Frederick Douglass, April 26, 1850
Your paper, the North Star, has accidentally fallen into my hands of late. I am much pleased with the paper. I believe that it is intended to do much good. As the Northern Polar Star is to the bondman of the South, a beacon to liberty, so this paper is, in my estimation, designed to kindle, within the bosom of the colored people, the spirit of Liberty, and to make the oppressor tremble. I shall encourage our oppressed people to subscribe for your paper as far as I possibly can.
