Jarvis Shove to Frederick Douglass, April 26, 1850
"Permit me to express my full and hearty approval of the manner and ability with which the paper has been conducted during the past year; and to express a hope that it will be conducted in future in the same fearless and independent spirit; and prove the means, under Divine Providence, of restoring our much injured colored brethren to their just rights; for it is a time, of all others, to stand firm, when our able Northern statesmen are recreant to their duty, and quite under the influence of that cursed system, SLAVERY."
