Frederick Douglass to S[amuel] G. Howe, June 23, 1871
Washington: June 23, 1871
Dr. S. G. Howe:
Dear Sir:
I have just received a note from Mr. H. B. Blackwell enquiring if I will meet you and himself in New York for the purpose of an interview with Mr. A. T. Stewart. I have assured him of my readiness to do so if any probable good can arise out of the effort. I have not yet seen General Babcock but hope to do so to day.
I have information which causes me to doubt that Baez can hold out till relief can reach him though I still hope.
Yours respectfully
Fredk Douglass.
