Charles R. Douglass to Frederick Douglass, April 30, 1867
WAR DEPARTMENT,
BUREAU OF REFUGEES, AND ABANDONED LANDS,
Washington, D.C. April 30th 1867
Dear Father
I received your letter a few days ago. I am pretty busy now and cannot write a very long letter. I have been here now a little over a week and thus far am doing well and have become fully initiated in my new position. I am the second colored man in the Government that has been given a first class clerkship. The young men of coler here cannot understand how it is that we in the North can obtain situations under the Govt. and they cannot. The Wormleys desire very much to see you and send their
kindest regards. The colored and white radicals talk of running a colored man for councilman in the coming June election.
I shall write you a longer letter when you are at home.
Affectionately Yr. Son
Charles R. Douglass
