Frederick Douglass Gerrit Smith, July 30, 1852
Rochester July 30th. 1852
Gerrit Smith Esqr.
My dear Sir—
I am glad of the prospect of having your company to Pittsburgh. Please name the train you mean to take for Buffalo—and I will try to be on hand. I have long wanted to go to Oberlin—and to be there with you will please me very much. Mr Thomas was not in when I called at his office monday for the account of the "Jerry trial"—and I failed of Seeing him.
Thank you again for your pamphlet on the unconstitutionality of Slavery and Civil Government.
I am In much haste—yours—come what may—
Frederick Douglass
