George G. Jessup (1806–87) was a native of New York and a merchant in Palmyra. Jessup may have been the president of the Palmyra Classical Union Academy in the 1860s and he seems to have donated money to missionary work being done in central Africa. It also seems that his son, Edwin, was mortally wounded at Gettysburg, dying later in July 1863. Jessup was also elected coroner of Wayne County in 1866. “Personal,” Newark (N.Y.)
