J[ames] R[awson] J[ohnson] to Frederick Douglass, November 3, 1853
Jacob R. J——.
FRIEND DOUGLASS:—There is a colored
man on Long Island who has been fifteeen
years on the same family. His name is
Jacob R. J.——. He has a salary of $375 a
year, beside special privileges. He has ex-
cellent business talents—has a neat house—a neat wife—a daughter 19 years of age, well
educated. It did me good to have him give
me his name for your paper.
Yours, J. R. J.
