Liberty Party.

Frederick Douglass in his last paper presents the position, purposes and prospects of the
liberty party as follows:

The Liberty Party of this State sustains about the same relation to other anti-slavery
organizations, as that sustained by the Massachusetts Anti-Slavery Society to the Free Democracy of that State. It is the repository of radical anti-slavery truth. Its work is to [bring?] right principles and sound doctrines among the people, paying little regard to its numbers. Its strentgh is in its devotion to the truth and the right. Such an organization may never elect a single representative to Congress or to the Legislature; yet it may see its great principles triump, and the grand purpose of its existence accomplished. Its members are not eager for place or power. They desire only to see the right prevail. Let them then, maintain their organizations, meet often together, register their high convictions, from time to time, and vote in that manner which shall best promote their establishment in the public mind.
