Frederick Douglass to [Susan F.] Porter, November 17, 1853

Rochester Nov. 17th
Dear Madam,
I have received your note inviting me, on behalf of the Rochester Ladies Antislavery Sewing Society, to favor them with an address at the coming Festival to be held Christmas week.
The most of which I can assure you, in reply, is, that I shall, certainly, be present on the occasion—ready to assist, in any manner, in my power to make the Festival successful. As to making a speech on that occasion, I hope there will be so many other speakers—as to render a speech from me uncalled for.
I am, Dear Madam, most Respectfully and truly, your grateful Friend,
Frederick Douglass
