William Harned to Frederick Douglass, March 4, 1853
BROOKLYN, March 4, 1853.
FREDERICK DOUGLASS, ESQ.: DEAR SIR:—
Feeling desirous, by all proper means, to promote the collections now being made in aidof the Chaplin Bail Fund, it has occurred to me that the publication of the contributions, which have been received since the issue of the first circular, last fall, may be the means of stirring up our anti-slavery friends to do their share in relieving the men who have assumed the pecuniary responsibilities of this unfortunate affair. Will you be pleased to insert the following acknowledgments in the next number of your paper? They include all that has come into my hands, as assistant Treasurer for the Fund; but not the remittances which have been made directly to Washington City.
Very truly yours,
WILLIAM HARNED.
